Frequently Asked Questions
What is a hackathon?
A hackathon is an event where you can work with a team and turn your ideas into real projects! We will also offer workshops with renowned speakers for you to learn more, and activities for you to enjoy yourself!
How much does it cost?
HackDefy is completely free - just come with a positive attitude!
Do I need to form a team beforehand?
Nope! Teams are optional. If you don't have a team, we will have a short event during opening ceremonies so that you can form a team before you start hacking!
Am I allowed to start working beforehand?
While you are allowed to brainstorm ideas before August 14, you may not actually start working on your project until hacking officially begins.
Who can attend?
HackDefy attendees must be in high school during the 2020-2021 school year, but other than that, there is no requirement as to who can attend!
How big can teams be?
The minimum team size is 2, while the maximum team size is 4. IF YOU DON'T HAVE A TEAM: that's okay! You can make one during the first day (or compete solo!)
What if I don't know how to code?
That's perfectly fine! Coming to HackDefy will teach you a considerable amount about coding, and we will be here to guide you at any moment.
Am I allowed to create hardware projects?
As our hackathon is mainly online, we ask that you try your best to create projects that do not involve hardware. If you feel the need to use hardware, please attach pictures of what you created in your submission.
